A field camera for photographs that have to hold up later. Version 2.0 is faster, more accurate and useful without a signal: the shutter fires instantly, the position is corrected for motion, and an offline place list names where you stood.

A coordinate is only part of the story.
A site photograph may need to be understood long after the person who took it has left. Coordinates alone do not explain how confident the phone was about its position. Bearing puts that accuracy beside the location and freezes the time at the shutter. Records within ±25 m are marked evidence grade; weaker fixes are saved and labelled honestly, never refused. The person reading the record can judge what the phone actually knew.
Corrected for motion
On a bike or in a car, the position is projected to the exact shutter moment using your speed and direction, with the extra uncertainty included.
Hold for precision
Touch and hold the shutter to average your position over 8 seconds. Optional barometric altitude steadies passes and hills.
Where the lens pointed
Lens direction, tilt and field of view, drawn as a view cone on the map. The camera’s direction, not the top of the phone.
No signal, still a place
Offline, Bearing names the nearest town from a built-in place list, such as “14 km NE of Munnar”, with DIGIPIN and Plus Codes worked out on the phone.
Muted Capture and Zones
Take a clean photo with no stamp burned in. Everything is still sealed and the stamp can be recalled later. Muted Zones do this automatically at places like home.
A seal on every record
The original, the stamped image and every field are signed together with a Secure Enclave key. A Capture Record PDF carries a QR code anyone can check in a browser.
Camera quality
HEIF 10-bit with HDR, up to 48 MP where supported, and a stamped copy that keeps the HDR. Shoot with the volume buttons, Action button, Camera Control or AirPods.

An honest record includes its limits.
Import a colleague’s photo and Bearing shows the location, time and camera its file reports, then creates a separately sealed copy; the source stays byte-for-byte unchanged and missing fields stay missing. Verify tells you whether a file was altered, and recognises copies recompressed by messaging apps as a visual match rather than a verified one. Optional trusted timestamps receive only a fingerprint of the record.

This is local tamper evidence. Bearing is not C2PA-certified, does not identify the photographer, and cannot prove that a phone’s sensors or clock were not manipulated, though simulated locations are detected and flagged. Editing or recompressing an image changes its hash. Trails are built from your photos alone, with GPX export and no background tracking.
